Simply put, you want an agent that is skilled and experienced when it comes to buying houses and will have your best interests at heart during the entire process. While it may not seem like it, there are many duties and responsibilities that the buying agent handles to ensure the process is not only successful but also that it runs smoothly for their client. After you find the agent you want to work with, you will sit down with them and review your “must-have” list and you “want” list. This will help to give your agent a better idea of the nonnegotiables in a home, as well as things that are very important to you but not necessarily deal-breakers.

Your buying agent will then take that list and search for listings that meet your desired criteria. A few traits you will want to see in your buying agent include someone that is honest, trustworthy, reliable and has a proven track record of success. If a realtor has a positive reputation and raving client testimonials, you will have more confidence in hiring them on to represent you. If a realtor does not have such positive testimonials or a track record of success, you may want to rethink that person and instead find someone that you know will be better suited to represent you.
